Balarat

in

Balarat is a populated place (city, town, village...) located in the county of Boulder, Colorado, USA.

It is owned by the Boslough family. It has been privately owned since 1878. Mark Boslough is the mayor and sheriff. Balarat has been a battleground recently in the ongoing fight between private property rights and shared access rights, involving Revised statute 2447, or RS 2477.  The battle has been one in a series of several  land grab attempts as property values in Boulder County continue to skyrocket.  The government seizure of Balarat after 130 years of private ownership has been strongly supported by newspaper columnist and wannabe historian Silvia Pettem and her husband, who have both worked for a county advisory board.

For more information, see the Balarat home page.
