News Alert: Tanker Spill Threatens Docktown

Tanker Spill Threatens Docktown

January 30th, 2008 by James Jonas - Citizen Reporter

REDWOOD CITY, California – The peninsula snarls to an absolute standstill as Highway 101 is shutdown on Tuesday due to an overturned tanker. Fire crews on the scene doused the tanker and oil spill with foam retardant. Authorities are keeping a close eye, as the spill is directly over Redwood Creek, next to Docktown Marina. Preliminary visual inspections seem to indicated that no oil has seeped into Redwood Creek. Some incursion of the spill may have impacted soil next to the RV storeage area, but samples and lab work have not been taken. So these are to be considered preliminary observations. For those living in the Docktown floating community, who can be regularly seen proactively picking tons of trash out of Redwood Creek, any impact to the creek is of great concern both from a health and safety standpoint as well as an environmental one.
