The Independent runs a front page lead story about Docktown
Posted June 11th, 2000 by bigGuy
The Redwood City council meets, and 29 citizens—virtually all residents from Docktown—fill out speaker cards for the Docktown Marina agenda item. Vice Mayor Claire gives a follow-up report on Docktown, and effectively removes the 'cease and desist' order from the floating homes currently under construction. He clarifies that, while the existing homeowners can finish what they started and/or maintain their homes, no additional new floating homes will be allowed to start construction. While the Docktown residents react favorably to this news, the council cautions the audience that this action should not be construed as an endorsement of floating homes and liveaboard boats at Docktown, and that further discussion at the city council level is required. The council states that they will explore establishing an ordinance that addresses floating homes in a timely fashion. The addresses of the residents who filled out speaker cards are collected by the clerk in order to keep the residents of Docktown informed of the council's progress. A handful of Docktown residents address the city council individually, thanking them for their efforts and providing them with photos of Docktown, additional information about Docktown, and invitations to visit Docktown homes.
