Docktown Marina is where we keep our liveaboard boats and floating homes. While not an exceptionally glamorous location—Docktown's borders are Highway 101, Bair Island, and an industrial area —we think it's rather nice. We are visited by flotillas of ducks, small groups of cormorants, snowy white egrets, and the occasional harbor seal. How many Bay Area backyards can boast of wildlife like this? Many of us are active in the effort to improve conditions at Docktown, whether it be pulling shopping carts out of Redwood Creek, making repairs to the docks, or maintaining gardens. There's really no reason that Docktown couldn't be as nice a place as Issaquah dock in Sausalito or Lake Union in Seattle, and we're working to make it so.
Now some of the racier rumors you may have heard are true—Docktown used to have a unsavory reputation as a place where various illegal activities took place. But that's not the case any longer. Docktown residents make up a responsible community willing to work with Redwood City to achieve common goals, such as clean water and affordable housing.
